Along with a hit TV show, popular movies, and a huge line of action figures, the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles also had enough merchandise, accessories & toys to last a lifetime. Everything from clothing to food to hygiene products had the faces of the Ninja Turtles on them in the late ’80s and early ’90s. As a kid growing up during that time period, there wasn’t anything cooler than representing the Turtles. If you wore the newest Turtles shirt to school, or were lucky enough to carry your lunch to school in a brand new Ninja Turtles lunchbox, you were pretty much the envy of every kid in elementary school.
I’ve managed to save most of my Turtles collection from when I was a kid, and I’ve added to it over the years with items from Ebay and garage sales. My collection has become so big that I decided to dedicate an entire room in my house to displaying it. I thought that it would be fun to share, so here is a video and some pictures of my collection of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles memorabilia from the late ’80s and early ’90s:
Vehicles & Accessories
The Ninja Turtles cartoon produced some of the most iconic vehicles and accessories that I could remember when I was a kid. Fortunately, I’ve saved everything that I had when I was little. The most memorable vehicle is probably the Technodrome, which was Shredder and Krang’s weapon of destruction. I’ve managed to keep in really good shape other than the eyeball which is currently on loan from my friend, Lou.
The Module and Foot Cruiser were other bad guy vehicles. Both are missing some small pieces, but neither one is in bad shape. The Turtle Van was the classic vehicle that the Turtles rode around in. It’s a little banged up from years of use, bust still looks good. I probably played with the Sewer Playset more than anything when I was a kid. There’s so much detail that went into creating this, they did a really great job. I’m missing some small stuff here, but it still looks really good.
Posters & Pictures
I bought most of these posters recently, but you could tell which ones I’ve had since I was a kid.
Cards & Stickers
I don’t know how I managed to accumulate so many Ninja Turtles stickers over the years, but I had enough to make a sticker section of the wall. I bought the box of cards, and the unopened packs of cards on Ebay years ago…I opened all of the cards I got when I was little.
When I was a kid, I wore a Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles shirt just about every day. Even though they haven’t fit me for a very long time, I still like to keep them around for the nostalgia.
Calculators, watches, cups, cereal bowls…yep, the Turtles really were everywhere. Most of these items I actually used when I was a kid.
I’ve done my best to display as much of my Turtles memorabilia as possible. The first picture is an old craft shelf of my mom’s, which is perfect for cups and glasses. The other pictures are of my main display shelf. The top section has some items that weren’t pictured above, like my Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles III lunchbox and a 100 piece puzzle. The next shelf has old VHS tapes, comic books, and various items. The other shelves are for my ’80s and ’90s action figures.
